Kristen Columbus, Ed.D., M.S.D.H., RDH, joined the College of Dental Medicine as a faculty member in May of 2022. She attended the 51Æ·²è where she earned her Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2006. She furthered her education at the University of Bridgeport and attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2014 followed by a Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene with a concentration in education and public health in 2022. In 2026, she earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Health Professions Education graduating with high distinction from Logan University College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Columbus has been in the dental field since 2002. She started out in the dental field as an on-the-job-trained dental assistant and is now a registered dental hygienist and educator. Underscoring her instructional work, she has an extensive clinical dental hygiene background working in general and periodontal private practice settings. She continues to deliver the highest standard of care compassionately and skillfully. Colleagues recognize her use of modern, evidence-based approaches to treatment and education that optimize results. 

Dr. Columbus’ educator mindset is invaluable in roles where she instructs, inspires, and leads, sharing her unique journey and emphasizing personal growth. She possesses excellent leadership skills and a willingness to step forward and make meaningful contributions that strengthen organizational structures, systems, and protocols. 

Dr. Columbus obtained her Local Anesthesia Permit in 2014 and Dental Assisting National Board Certification in 2020. She is also an active member in the American Dental Hygienists Association and American Dental Education Association. Dr. Columbus serves as a current board member of the Maine Dental Hygienists Association. In 2026, she was elected to membership in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Dr. Columbus’ goal is to work towards an invention that will aid in the field of dentistry.
